Advancing Dialogue on Circular Bioeconomy | 25 March 2026
The second day of activities within the SAFOOD4MED was dedicated to an open and forward-looking discussion on science, innovation, and real-world impact.
The International Scientific Day and Round Table created a dynamic platform where research outcomes met stakeholder perspectives, enabling a broader reflection on how to translate scientific advancements into practical and scalable solutions.
At the core of the discussion was the challenge of redefining agri-food waste as a resource, unlocking its potential for the development of antimicrobial bioplastics capable of improving food preservation while reducing environmental impact.
Rather than focusing solely on technical progress, the event emphasized:
- the integration of research with market and societal needs
- the role of policy and regulatory frameworks in enabling innovation
- the importance of consumer perception and acceptance
- the need for coordinated action across the Mediterranean region
The round table brought together diverse voices, fostering a constructive exchange on the opportunities and barriers associated with circular bio-based solutions. This interaction highlighted that innovation in food packaging is not only a technological issue, but also a systemic transformation involving the entire value chain.

The event reaffirmed that collaboration remains the key driver for achieving sustainable impact, bridging the gap between research, industry, and policy.
With this shared vision, SAFOOD4MED continues its path toward developing solutions that contribute to a more resilient, efficient, and circular Mediterranean food system.
